Patients and community members can show their support for Wood River Health Services in a number of ways, from monetary donations to volunteering in the office or on a special project, or even simply by choosing to have prescriptions filled at our partner pharmacy under the federal 340b incentive program.
And remember, being a full partner in your own healthcare and letting your friends and family know of the wonderful care you receive at Wood River Health Services are both terrific ways you can help, too!
Financial contributions, whether spontaneous, as a result of our Annual Appeal, or through participation at a fundraiser, are always welcome. Donations can be targeted – to support heating assistance, for example, or to offset charity dental care, buy equipment, or even maintain the building.
Of course, direct, unencumbered contributions to the general operating fund are also encouraged!
Donations to Wood River Health Services are tax-deductible. Wood River Health Services is a registered 501c3 tax-exempt organization and is licensed as a public charity by the Rhode Island Department of Business Regulation.

Other ideas for donating
Matching Gifts – Employers frequently offer matching gift programs that add value to their employees’ donations to charitable organizations. A donation by the employee is matched, typically by some percentage, by the employer. Matching Gift forms are generally distributed through your employer’s Human Resource office.
Honor Someone Special – There are those people in our lives who seem to always be ready to help when called upon. Honor a loved one who you recognize as simply wanting to make their community a better place by making a gift in their name. We will send a handwritten note, anonymously if desired, to whomever you designate to let them know of your thoughtful gift.
To discuss memorials, bequests, gifts of stock or insurance, or other unique contributions, contact Development Coordinator David Henley at (401) 387-9628 or President and CEO Michael Lichtenstein at (401) 387-9648.
Other creative ways to help,
and to encourage your friends and family to support our organization, might include:
Give the Gift of Giving – Searching for the perfect gift for a friend, parent, child or co-worker celebrating a special occasion? Before you reach for another tie, coffee mug or multi-colored cell phone cover, consider giving them the gift of helping others. We will send them a handwritten note and information about us to let them know of your thoughtful gift.
Throw Yourself A Party – Instead of gifts for your own occasion, ask your guests to make a contribution to Wood River Health services in honor of your birthday, wedding, anniversary or other special occasion. We can provide you with donation envelopes or you can simply give them our Web site address to donate online. If you would like to discuss your idea for a party, call David Henley, Development Coordinator, at (401) 387-9628 or email email@example.com.
Dress Down Days – Companies and organizations frequently allow their employees to participate in “Dress Down Days”, a day when employees can wear jeans or casual attire in exchange for making a donation to a designated non-profit organization. If your company offers “Dress Down Days” (or you would like to suggest that they do) and you want to designate Wood River Health Services to receive the donation, call David Henley, Development Coordinator, at (401) 387-9628 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
In addition to helping us fund important programs and services, this is a great way to create awareness in the community about Wood River Health.
At Wood River Health Services, we recognize that the gift of time is also extremely valuable. If you have time to give to helping your neighbors, you may want to:
- Be a greeter
- Help with administrative functions
- Maintain our children’s books library
- Look after our memorial garden
- Volunteer for special projects
- Serve on one of our committees
- Join the Board
For more information on volunteering, call Human Resources Manager Dianne Langlais at (401) 387-9605 or email email@example.com.
340b Pharmacy Program – Prescriptions filled at the Wyoming or Coventry Walgreens pharmacies can generate funding to support care for uninsured and underinsured patients.
Under the federal 340b incentive program, pharmacies partnering with Community Health Centers receive reduced pricing on certain medications, allowing them to provide free or reduced price prescriptions to the uninsured and others in need.
And when a patient with insurance chooses to fill their prescriptions through our partner, the difference is returned to Wood River Health Services to support the care and services we provide.
Of course, anyone may use the pharmacy of their choice, but using a partnering Walgreens helps us provide quality, affordable healthcare to every person who needs it.
In addition to an Annual Appeal, Wood River Health Services holds an annual fundraising gala called “Laughter Really is the Best Medicine”. In the past, this comedy night has included performances by several stand-up comedians, a hypnotist, a comedic magician and even the Ocean State Follies troupe.
For sponsorships, auction item donations or to help with the event, or if you would like to host an event or conduct a fundraising drive on behalf of Wood River Health, call David Henley, Development Coordinator, at (401) 387-9628 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
