On Monday, May 22, the 5th Annual Chariho Better Health Forum will address current drug use, personal stories of addiction and recovery, the relationship of substance use to mental health issues, and how parents can recognize signs of drug use.
The event will feature “Hidden in Plain Sight”, an interactive presentation that allows adults to explore a teenager’s mock bedroom. Attendees will learn how to recognize and identify drug paraphernalia, hiding places, lingo, signs and symptoms that may indicate drug abuse or other risky behaviors.
The evening will also include discussion by David Neill of the RI Attorney General’s Office on emerging drug trends, Linda Mahoney, RI Dept. of Behavioral Healthcare, on what RI is doing to address the current epidemic, George Sherman, Chief of Hope Valley Rescue, on what he is seeing in Chariho, Abbie Stenberg, a student with a personal story about the journey of addiction and recovery, and Dan Fitzgerald, of the Chariho Youth Task Force, on the importance of mental health and its relation to substance use prevention.
