90 minutes to save a life

Posted June 12, 2017
A sobering statistic: South County has the highest suicide rate in Rhode Island. In just five years, 74 residents took their own lives.
One response:  South County Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds and St. Andrew Lutheran Church are co-sponsoring QPR suicide prevention training at the Church on 15 East Beach Road in Charlestown, RI. It will start at 6:30 pm on Thursday, June 15.
Associate Pastor and nationally-qualified QPR instructor Joanna Hertzog Betkoski will conduct the 90-minute training.
QPR stands for three steps. After you learn how to recognize the warning signs of suicide, you Question the individual about possible suicidal thoughts. You Persuade them to seek help. And you Refer them for professional assistance.
You and/or your clients, colleagues, patients, etc. are asked to register by contacting Cindy Volage at (401) 322-0088 or StAndrewOffice@gmail.com.
